Several UST Programs Receive ABET Accreditation

Four of the Bachelor of Science degree programs offered by the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Zewail City have been accredited by ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

The UST accredited programs are: 

1- Biomedical Sciences

2-  Communications and Information Engineering

3- Environmental Engineering

4- Nanotechnology and Nanoelectronics Engineering

 

Obtaining ABET accreditation of the four programs is a major milestone for the University of Science and Technology in Zewail City, being the first Egyptian public university to obtain international accreditation from the American accreditation board ABET. This achievement affirms the leadership and prominence of Zewail City for Science, Technology and Innovation. In response to achieving ABET accreditation, Prof. Mahmoud Abdrabou, acting Executive President of Zewail City, expressed gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees; members of the Board of Trustees; the deans; administrators; faculty members; staff; students; alumni; industrial advisory boards; the UST Continuous Improvement and Accreditation Unit; and the Egyptian state represented by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

 

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines. 

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,361 programs at 850 colleges and universities in 41 countries and areas.
