Novel Dual-Ligand Functionalized Core-Shell Nanocarrier for Hepatocellular Carcinoma-Targeted Drug Delivery

A recent study of a research team led by Prof. Ibrahim El-Sherbiny, Professor and Chairman of Nanoscience Program and Director of the Center for Materials Science (CMS) aimed at efficient treatment of the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) which poses a major health problem with ever rising mortality rates. The study was published in the well-respected internationally peer-reviewed International Journal of Nanomedicine (IJN). The research team successfully developed an HCC targeting nanocarrier system for the selective delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs. The developed nanocarriers were tested and the results depicted an enhanced cellular uptake efficiency as well as an improved safety profile compared to conventional chemotherapy.
