Probation and suspension

Probation

Students may be subject to probation if they fail to achieve satisfactory progress towards a degree at the end of any given semester. Students will be subject to probation or academic warning if their cumulative and/or major GPA falls below 2.00.

Students on probation are not permitted to register for more than 13 credit hours per semester. Additionally, they are not allowed to participate in university extracurricular activities.

If the GPA for the warning semester is not rectified by achieving a semester average of 2.00, the student will be subject to academic suspension from the university.

Suspension

Unsatisfactory academic performance may lead to academic suspension, which will terminate the student’s relationship with the university.

The following categories are subject to suspension:

• Students who fail to achieve a semester GPA of 2.00 for the courses taken during the probationary period.
• Freshmen who fail to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.00 during the two warning semesters, including students who achieved 2.00 for the first probation semester but failed to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.00 at the end of the second warning semester.
• Senior students who fail to achieve a GPA of 2.00 in their major courses during the probationary semester or who fail to achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in their major courses within the two semesters during which they were subjected to major probation.
• Students who fail to graduate within the maximum study period of eight years.
• Students who receive a letter of disqualification may submit a petition for readmission. A special committee will consider the readmission petition. Students who have been readmitted after suspension will be placed on probation and must meet specific academic objectives. Failure to meet these objectives will result in a second and final academic suspension.
